“It’s not about whether you get knocked down, it’s whether you get up.” – Vincent Lombardi
Look, I get it.
Life is different now, and what we were once used to is now history.
We’re all living in rather chaotic times, and every single one of us is going through an internal battle…Myself included.
However, this isn’t my first rut, nor is it my last.
I used to naively think that I just needed to find what I’m “passionate” about and then everything will be okay. All I had to do was identify that one source of meaning and then everything would fall into place…And I couldn’t be more wrong.
I was wrong to assume that the battles will go away.
The thing about being a high-performance person that nobody talks about is that it’s freaking hard.
It’s lonely, it’s exhausting, and it’s painful at times. And I’m not going to sit here and act like I optimize every hour of my time because the truth is: I don’t.
I have days when I want to throw in the towel and give up, but that’s not to say I actually do it…Because on most of those days I keep at it.
If you’re going to get one thing from this article, let it be that motivation comes and goes. If you think that you’ll get by solely based on how you feel, then you’re in for a rude awakening.
In order to push through those times when you just want to procrastinate, it requires more than just motivational videos.
You must set goals, and your future success depends on it.
Not only do you need a defined goal, but you need to firmly believe in your potential to achieve that goal to begin with…Think about it.
Assuming you can’t do something indirectly sets a glass ceiling on your potential.
You look at any successful person who we admire today–it doesn’t matter who they are or what they’re known for–and they all firmly believed in themselves and their potential.
They knew that they could reach their highest aspirations because if they didn’t, then they wouldn’t be where they are today.
Napoleon Hill, author of “Think and Grow Rich”, emphasizes the importance of belief in regard to one’s success:
“If you do not see great riches in your imagination, you will never see them in your bank balance.”
You need a long-term objective to aim towards, and you need to have full confidence in your ability to reach that objective.
After that, it’s up to you to remind yourself of that goal every single day. For me personally, I write all of my goals in the notes app on my phone, but it doesn’t matter how you do it.
It’s common for us to get sidetracked by the many tasks we have to do each day, and because of so, we organize our days with no long-term vision.
If you add in a plan to that day, it doesn’t matter how basic or complex that plan is, you’ll start living each day with a purpose.
Renowned billionaire, Warren Buffet, quotes:
“An idiot with a plan can beat a genius without a plan.”
And I don’t know about you, but if I’m going to take advice, then it’s going to be from this guy.
A plan is simply a list of goals, and goals are what will inspire motivation.
Without goals, you have nothing.
